The average residential density of Brabant matches that of the Netherlands; 60% live in cities and towns, which include a few medium-sized cities and a number of smaller cities and (fortified) towns.
Mediaeval centres
The cities often comprise traditional mediaeval centres with later extensions and are usually on a human scale and orderly. Tilburg in contrast also boasts one of the Netherlands tallest residential buildings: The 49-storey-high Westpoint. Although Brabant also has its share of modern society’s problems, it eagerly endeavours to secure a bright future for everybody.
Dated residential areas neighbourhoods are therefore usually treated to a makeover and new facilities. The remaining 40% of the population lives in villages, even though most people in Brabant work either in or near a city.
